Welcome to my Blog!

Hi! I'm a photographer in the San Francisco, Bay Area. I love capturing emotion & creating dramatic portraits. I get inspired by what I see, who I meet, what I hear, what I read... I hope that you enjoy my work. I LOVE light, LOVE awesome people and bringing the two together. It's as simple as that =)

Andre Ward vs Arthur Abraham Media Day

Today I had the pleasure to once again visit King’s Boxing gym in Oakland. Our hometown Super Middle Weight WBA World Champion and Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward held a media workout for his upcoming fight against Arthur Abraham. This upcoming fight is Show Time’s Super Six World Boxing Classic-Semifinals. Andre is only two victories away from winning the whole thing which would make him the #1 super middle weight in the world! Needless to say I’m super excited for the fight which will be held on May 14th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Here are some images I took as the day unfolded.

Andre Ward

As Andre Ward arrives to King's Boxing gym, his day pretty much starts with answering a bunch of questions from the media.

I really have to give him credit because answer a bunch of questions can’t be easy when you’re trying to get a good workout in and trying to focus on your goal. Being able to stayed focused and deal with all the media is a true talent in itself. He also always carries himself with class and is very transparent. Despite all his current success, he’s also a very down to earth and humble person.

Here's a view of Andre facing some of the media

As Andre & Dan were answering questions, Andre's trainer & God Father Virgil Hunter (Right) and Charles King owner of King's Boxing Gym (Left) also answers questions from the media.

Andre Ward

As always, one thing that's constant about Andre is that he's always in a great, positive & determined mood and brings a smile. Even when he has to answer a million questions!

Andre Ward

On top of dealing with the media, Andre's always happy to autograph things for his fans.

Once he was done with questions from the media, he started his workout. It began with him jumping rope.

Andre Ward

Watching boxers jump rope is really something else. They do it so well and make seem so effortlessly that it makes you want to start jumping rope!

Andre Ward

YES!! I had to get a close up of Andre jumping over the rope and of his shoes. I know Andre takes great pride on how he looks and one of the details he notices on people/other athletes are the type of shoes they have on. So I had to get a close up of his clean kicks!

So, I had to include this picture not only because I think it's cool, but you can also see me on the right =) I was temped to crop myself out but I left it as it is

Andre Ward

Yes, I would say he's ready for the fight. Let's go SOG!

Once he was done shadow boxing, he hit the mits with Virgil

After hitting the mits, he went on to the floor to ceiling ball

He ended the workout with hitting the speed bag. Again, boxers make it seem so effortlessly! But that's only because they pretty much put in a lifetime amount of work doing it.

Andre Ward

I love the two quotes that were near Andre while he was on the speed bag. They certainly hold truth for him and I personally get motivated from witnessing his determination in person. I love hanging around people who always push themselves because that type of attitude and behavior is contagious and makes you want to become better. I also strongly believe in photographing people with the respect they deserve. That's one of many reasons why I always try to push myself creatively.

and that pretty much concluded the media day. I really look forward to covering his fight which is just around the corner.

ajira - Boxing is just one of those things that seems barbaric and mystical, all at once. These images only add to the mystical sense I have of the sport. Beautiful, Alexis! And you're so right with your comment about watching boxers jump rope! Those images of Andre skipping literally made me want to bust out my moves!!May 3, 2011 - 10:38 pm

Heather & Chris Rost

Congratulations to Heather & Chris Rost!!! Today is their 5 year anniversary. Time goes by so fast because it doesn’t seem like that long ago that I covered their wedding. Heather & Chris’ wedding was the first wedding I covered on my own! I met them both back when we all worked at Home Depot in Fremont. At the time I had my hands full working 40hrs/week and also taking around 14-18 units at school. But needless to say, I was really excited to cover their wedding & dive into something I love.

They tied the knot at the San Mateo History Museum and we did an engagement session a few weeks earlier at Lake Elizabeth in Fremont. Here’s few pictures from their engagement session & wedding day. Heather & Chris, congratulations and thank you so much for letting me document your wedding and capture a small fraction of your amazing lives.

Jeff Almquist - LUV it Alexis! great images. Luv the full-on white hand stalking gloves she has on!!March 26, 2011 - 3:05 pm

Portraits – KIDS!!!

I can’t believe that March is already here. Time is just flying by & I’ve barley blogged. So that means I have to stay on top of things because one thing I do want to do is blog more! haha… I actually have a lot of things I’d love to blog about (including stuff from last year) but I just haven’t had the time to. So, I’ll have to figure something out where I can at least blog once a week. I’m working on a couple of things & have some goals for my photography this year. I plan to step my game up & actually make some time to work on personal projects. More to come on this soon, I promise =)

In the meantime, I’m always thankful for what I get to photograph. I really love what I do for many reasons. One is that I’m always surprised at the wide range of things I get to photograph. One day, it can be the most special day in a couples life, the other day can be the most important fight in a boxers career, and other times it can be kids. I really enjoyed photographing these kids and loved how honest & carefree they are in front of the camera. They hold nothing back. Their emotions sincerely comes through with no filter which is something amazing. Unfortunately, that’s something we tend to loose as we get older and become preoccupied with how “good” we look and what others will think. One thing that weddings & sports do have in common is that they are both full of emotion and at times, you can see grown people let go with excitement & happiness… almost like children. I really enjoyed how much fun & easy going these kids were. There’s no need for a special event to take place for them to have fun & just let go. I really wish this was something all adults could do as well. The world would be a much better place.
